Kim Smith
Kim Smith is an artist and designer based in Boston, MA. She is the co-founder and CEO of Learning Beautiful, a company creating timeless computational toys for young children. Additionally, she is the Art Director for Wildflower Schools, a foundation supporting a network of innovative shopfront Montessori schools.
From 2013 - 2017, as a researcher in the Social Computing group at the MIT Media Lab, she
collaborated on a variety of art, design, and educational projects. She is currently a Learning Fellow with the Media Lab Learning Innovation Fellowship.
In 2017, Kim received a Master of Science degree from MIT, where her research included developing and evaluating Montessori-inspired computer science learning materials for early childhood education. She holds an MFA in Fine Art from School of Visual Arts in New York City and completed her BFA in Fine Art and Art History from Oregon State University. From 2007- 2009, she served in the US Peace Corps in rural Zambia as a Health Extension Agent. Kim’s art practice centers on process-based painting; and she has works in a variety of art-related fields such as illustration, book design, and software design.
